AQuity’s Continuing Education Program

It is necessary for even the most experienced staff to keep their skills updated by learning new terms, new techniques, and filling in the gaps in their overall proficiencies.

It is AQuityLEAP’s endeavor to provide a comprehensive CEP platform with education material and exercises that make CEP an interesting and fruitful journey as learners strive to better themselves.

AQuity’s production staff (MTs / QAs) can register themselves into AQuityLEAP and get started with either the recommended or self need-based CEPs.  These CEPs are flexible and are specifically designed keeping in mind the work dynamics of a production staff.  Each CEP includes adequate reference material, quizzes, transcription exercises, and tests.  These are plug-n-play training programs and do not depend on instructors, which means that production staff can also log into this module at any time of the day/night and follow simple instructions to smoothly guide through the program.  All quiz and test scores and feedback rendering justification are readily available which helps the candidate to continually improve as the training program progresses.

General CEP

General CEP is based on regular and day-to-day topics and covers the very basics of medical transcription. A few of General CEPs are listed below.

AHDI (formerly known as AAMT) Refresher:

This helps the medical transcriptionists to thoroughly acquaint themselves to the AHDI style guide spanning punctuations, text formatting, capitalization, acronyms, numbering, etc. AHDI style guide forms the basis of document presentation in medical transcription.

English grammar oriented CEPs

Grammar: Grammar topics such as subject & verb agreement, prepositions, tenses, articles, etc, are covered to orient candidates to the importance of knowing and applying correct grammar and American punctuation rules. Once the rules are applied in practice, they are remembered and used post training as well.

Homonyms & Homophones: To orient candidates to sound-alikes and look-alikes and to be wary of these, to enable them to judiciously choose terms with regard to context, to make them confident and efficient while working with different forms of words (noun form, adj. form, etc.).

Proofing Skills

Audio-Based Proofing (APR): To impart the practice of cross-checking the text with the aid of audio file, to make sure that no text is omitted or inserted, to make APR an integral part and mandatory process of transcription, to identify and correct change of thought, corrections, etc., of the dictator.

Visual Proofreading (VPR): To inculcate the habit of proofreading a file without the aid of voice, to take an objective decision based on the findings, to make appropriate judgment with regard to application of grammar and punctuation rules.

Visual proofreading enables one to concentrate on content free from the influence of voice.

Specialized CEP

Based on production and client (current and upcoming) specific requirements for selected group of trainees.  This is done on p.r.n. basis.

Specialty Training

Makes the transcriptionist to be proficient in a specific system. The program enhances candidates’ quality and productivity by exposing them to various work types like H&P, DS, OR, etc., makes candidates aware of peculiarities attached with various kinds of systems dictated under a single work type, helps them to understand peculiarities and difficulties attached with various work types and handle them smoothly in live environment, increases the quality and productivity and sharpens the transcription skills of the candidate.

System-Specific training:

To re-orient candidates on a specific system (e.g.:  Psychiatry, Radiology, OB-Gyn, etc.), to hone the transcription skills of the candidates, to give appropriate exposure on various work types within a particular specialty, to increase the quality and productivity of the current work force.

Training on challenging dictations:

To enable the candidates to get familiarized with the accent and dialect of the dictator, throw light on dictator’s specifications, re-orient the transcriptionist to be dictator-specific, facilitate smooth transition from current dictators to new dictators, helps to understand dictator’s idiosyncrasy and to cope up with it.

Voice and Accent Training Module:

To help the candidates understand different accents of the dictator, e.g., Southern accent, Texan, Californian, a new perspective of looking at the file from a linguistic point of view; makes them understand the basic rules of Pronunciation, American rhythm, and Pitch variations; enhances comprehension skill of the candidates making them comfortable with various forms of dialects and jargons.
